  • Hazendal: Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a shooting incident took place in Hazendal on Saturday 23 March at 18:00 at the Corner of Kuils and Downing Street. Athlone police spokesperson, Sergeant Zita Norman says two men were walking when both victims were shot at from behind. “The victims do not know who shot them as they did not see anyone around them. A total of 11 cartridges and three projectiles were found on the scene. The victims sustained injuries on their left arm, the left shoulder, the right buttocks and the left side of the mouth. No arrests had been made,” Norman says.
  • Vygieskraal: Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in Vygieskraal on Thursday 28 March at 09:45 for the possession of drugs after police found cocaine with an estimated street value of R500 000. Athlone police officers conducted a crime intelligence operation after receiving information from the community. Athlone police spokesperson, Sergeant Zita Norman says officers from the flying squad descended on the home in the informal settlement where a search was then conducted. “Anyone with information in assisting the police to eradicate drugs in the community is asked to call Captain Adrian Andries on 079 8941420,” says Norman.
  • Hazendal: A 38-year-old man has been arrested by Athlone police on Wednesday 27 March in connection with a shooting incident which took place in Hazendal on Saturday 23 March. Athlone police spokesperson, Sergeant Zita Norman says police were alerted to the incident at 14:30 when two men were allegedly shot at from a blue Volkswagen Polo in Herbrand Street. “Victims were transported to Groote Schuur Hospital where one was declared dead,” says Norman. She adds that police received information of a stolen vehicle parked in Peugeot Crescent. “At the scene, police found a white Nissan Hardbody bakkie with a CEY registration plate. The vehicle was found to have been stolen in Kalk Bay. Police arrested a 38-year-old man,” she says. Anyone with information can call Athlone Police Station on 021 697 9238 or 021 697 9239
