  • Athlone police are investigating a murder case following a fatal shooting at Klapperbos Street on Monday 1 April. Athlone police spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman says: “It is alleged the man was walking with two unknown people when one suddenly drew a firearm and shot the victim nine times. No arrests have been made.” She says the deceased sustained multiple injuries to his legs, arms and stomach. Police appeal to anyone who has information about the incident to call the station at 021 697 9238 /39.
  • Manenberg: A 30-year-old who was found guilty of theft and damage to Prasa essential service infrastructure was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment of which four years has been suspended to five years at Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 4 April. According to the police statement, Xolani Zantsi was arrested in November last year after he was caught stealing the copper cables at Nyanga Junction. Brigadier Enolium Joseph, the station commander, commended the detective, Sergeant Daryl Van Noie for his dedication in curbing crime and being an inspiration to his community.
  • Manenberg police are investigating a murder case following a fatal shooting at Kasouga Road on Thursday 11 April. According to the police report, the 47-year-old man was shot by unknown men who fled the scene with his money. The victim was on his way home after getting paid at work. Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett says: “As he walked towards his home in Kasouga Road it is alleged that he was approached by unknown men. Several gunshots were heard. Family members then came out to check and found that the 47-year-old man was shot. He was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. No arrest has been made yet and police appeal to anyone with information regarding the incident to call 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop 086 001 0111.
  • Manenberg police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following gang-violence between two rivals on Sunday 7 April afternoon. A 42-year-old man was fatally wounded, and a 28-year-old was rushed to hospital after shooting incident. Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett says a group of men from different gangs were sitting on the corner of Duinefontein Road and Storms River Road, gambling when the fight broke out. “One of the men pulled out a firearm and fired random shots. As the men scattered running for cover, the man continued shooting at them hitting the 42-year-old in the back, fatally wounding him. A 28-year-old man was wounded in the arm and taken to hospital.” Bennett says no arrest has been made yet and Manenberg police has mobilised its detectives and will not leave any stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to book. “Additional police officers will saturate the area to do visible policing.” Anyone with information can inform the police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop 086 001 0111.
  • Athlone police appeal to public to help with information pertaining a body of an unknown man that was found on the side of the N2 Freeway between Jakes Gerwel Drive and Bhunga Avenue on Monday 8 April. "The deceased is currently unknown, and it would be appreciated if anybody can shed light on incident,” says Sergeant Zita Norman, the spokesperson for Athlone Police Station.
