Crime wrap: Mitchell's Plain

  • Town Centre: Six men between the ages of 21 and 36 were arrested for the possession of a dependence-producing substance, by Mitchell’s Plain police. On Sunday 28 April at 16:30 sergeant Rulwa was busy with crime prevention duties at Polka Square in Town Centre when she noticed suspicious men standing next to a silver Toyota Tazz. Police approached the suspects, inspected the car and found 58 bushes of khat. All six men were arrested. They appeared in court on Tuesday 30 April.

  • Town Centre: A 32-year-old man was arrested and appeared in court on Monday 6 May for being in possession of an imitation firearm. Mitchell’s Plain Sector Commanders were conducting crime prevention duties at 10th Avenue, Town Centre on Thursday 2 May at 09:00, when they stopped and searched a suspicious looking man and found a silver imitation firearm. They arrested him. The suspect is a gang member.

  • Beacon Valley: A 32-year-old man was arrested after people were robbed at gunpoint in Bravo Street, Beacon Valley. At 06:30 on Thursday 2 May, members of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) were busy with stop-and-go searches in Beacon Valley when they received information about the robbery. They responded to the complaint and started searching the area and arrested the suspect. He was charged and appeared in court on Monday 6 May.
