iThwasa Lekhansela Cape Town Branch celebrated Heritage Day in the spirit of Ubuntu.

The event was held on Monday in Laura Park, Tafelsig, says Pastor Zameka Faku.

“Our aim is to bring back Ubuntu and unite with the other cultures, to love each other and respect each other,” says Faku.

They also showed their support for a local dancer Inganathi Moyakhe.

Moyakhe, who was the best on the day dancing to Maskanda music, is competing in a competition.

They are now also calling on residents to support him by voting for him (SMS “Satma 15” to 33888).

“If you are a member of this group or the community and you have a dream and you need support, please come forward to the committee and we will support you by doing [what we can],” says Faku.

The organisation will also host a Maskandi Festival at the Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium on Saturday 3 November.

The organisation was founded by iThwasa Lekhansela (known as the Young Blood) in April with Faku (Elderly Blood) as the organisation’s mentor.

“We started this year after seeing [an increase in the] crime rate and wanted to intervene to make a difference. The founder of this group was Ithwasa Lekhansela who came to me for ideas and made me the mentor of the group as a pastor and Elderly Blood,” says Faku.

They event is organised by the Young Blood.

“We are using the Young Blood to be in charge as we as the Elderly Blood don’t know the language of today’s generation. They want their voices to be listened to and we have our speaker, Mthokozisi Mkize [to do that],” says Faku.

She adds there will be free transportation for the Maskandi Festival.

Doors are open from 08:00 to 18:00. Tickets cost R120 or R200 for VIP and are available via Computicket.

Various artists will perform on the day.
