The Democratic Alliance (DA) has retained ward 82, winning with more than 60% of the valid votes cast.According to the official results released by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), only 23.94% of voters participated in the by-election, held on Wednesday 13 November.The number of voters who registered during the voter registration drive held in the area at the end of September was 15 941, this is less than the number of voters who registered for the 2019 provincial and national government elections.Of the almost 16 000 registered voters, only 3 817 votes were cast across the six voting stations in the ward. Of these, 3 783 votes cast were valid, with 34 spoilt ballots.All six stations only had participation of between 19% and 27% during the 12-hour election period. Results . Washiela Harris – DA: 2422 votes (64.02%) . Paul Anthony Daniels – Good Party: 492 votes (13%) . Grant Jeremy Claasen – African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP): 441 votes (11.66%) . Chester Arendse – Independent: 179 votes (4.73%) . Marie Jeanette Olifant – African National Congress (ANC): 144 votes (3.80%) . Jaques Brinkhuys – Independent: 61 votes (1.61%) . Phila van der Heever – Cape Party: 18 votes (0.48%) . Sandra Shirley Poleman – Democratic Independent Party (DIP): 12 votes (0.32%) . Mogamat Sedick Gabier – Independent: 11 votes (0.29%) . Daniel Peter Petersen – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF): 3 votes (0.08%). Aside from the independent candidates who have not contested an election before, all parties represented in the 2019 municipal by-election for ward 82 showed significant drops in percentages of votes received. Harris of the DA was officially elected ward 82 councillor obtaining 64.02% of the vote.
