Police will continue to arrest people found in possession of dagga.

Police last week issued a statement regading arrests of people found in posssession of dagga stating the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) will appeal the judgement given in the case of possession, or cultivation of cannabis in a private dwelling for personal consumption by an adult person.

Following consultation with police, a decision was made that police will enforce the still existing legislation without any exceptions subject to standing policy directives and the decision taken at NOMM regarding the applications for a stay in prosecution in similar matters. This means that police still has a mandate to arrest anyone found in possession of dagga and residents should not be misguided inline with this.V For more information on cannabis legislation, see page 12.
