Athlone dance company, Dance for All (DFA), will host a production festival at the Artscape yet again this year on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July.

This year’s theme is Genesis and is derived from creating, with the focus being visual effects and patterning.

Dance for All experiments with the diversity in their choreography, for a brief glimpse into an abstract world.

Attendees can expect guest performances from the Taare Indian Dance Company, directed by Allison Hendricks, a Bollywood dance performance troupe directed by Ahneesh Vaalodia, including an item previously performed in Bollywood with a selection of DFA students.

Taare’s dancers specialise in genres that range from Indian classical dance styles of Bharatanatyam and Kathak to Hip Hop and, the increasingly popular dance styles of Bollywood and Indian Folk.

Students selected from the provincial education department’s arts-focused schools will also add to the guest performances.

This year will also include the works of guest choreographers like Anderson Carvalho and Louise Coetzer.

Coetzer is a choreographer who works within site-specific creations, choreography for the stage and dance films.

Her works are experiential, experimental and innovative, and often have interdisciplinary collaboration at their core.

She approaches dance-making as an art form to the world outside the studio or the theatre. Carvalho is a contemporary dancer, teacher and choreographer who started his dance career at the School of Dance and Social Integration for Children and Adolescents, Edisca in Brazil; first as a student and later as a teacher, performer and choreographer. He studied contemporary dance, classical ballet and modern dance; among others, and is currently studying towards a masters in Choreography.

Tickets for the production are available on Computicket and cost between R80 and R120.V For more information on the festival email admin@danceforall.co.za
