Lenteguer’s Lee-Shane Booysen, the 2019 Red Bull Dance Your Style champion, will compete at the first World Final on Saturday 12 October at Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris, France. The 26-year-old was crowned the winner of the Red Bull Dance Your Style national finals at Johannesburg’s Newtown Music Factory on Saturday 3 August. He will represent Mzansi in the battle between more than 30 talented street dancers from around the globe. Lee-Shane secured the chance to compete for a life-changing opportunity when he proved to be a phenomenal street dancer with unmatched improvisational skills, outdancing 15 other dancers from regions across South Africa. In a statement, he says this is a big moment for him and he is excited to be the one heading to Paris to represent South Africa. “A part of me still cannot believe I have won because I thought the competition at regional level was tough, but the finals were tougher.”Lee-Shane will be accompanied by Soweto’s Teboho Diphehlo, who won the Red Bull Dance Your Style competition last year with moves that went beyond his trademark pantsula style.Teboho congratulates Lee-Shane on the win and says dancers have different approaches.“Some do it for fun, some for healing and others to tell stories and to educate, but if you want to win Red Bull Dance Your Style, you have to impress the audience X nothing more and nothing less,” says Teboho. According to the statement, the Paris leg of Red Bull Dance Your Style gives freedom to dancers by allowing them to express their skills and personality through one-on-one battles. “There’s no planned choreography so dancers will have to thrill and rock the audience by adapting their chosen style to surprising tunes, from recent global hits to old time classics,” it reads. “Whoever shows off the coolest steps in interaction with rhythm, lyrics and instruments, and manages to wow the crowd and win their vote, will become a crowned winner.”Red Bull wants all dance fans to be a part of the Global Red Bull Dance Your Style. This is an opportunity for locals to show their best dance moves, and subsequently form part of the longest dance video yet to be created. Dancers are encouraged to submit their videos on https://danceyourstyle.redbull.com/en-za. One lucky person stands a chance to win a trip to the World final in Paris, joining Lee-Shane and Teboho.Entries close on Saturday 31 August.
