Lavender Hill came alive with different activities to celebrate Youth Day last week.

As part of the “I love Lavender Hill year” initiative, officials of the Department of Community Safety partnered with the Guardians of the National Treasure to do different activities “to ensure our youth feel special on Youth Day”, according to event organiser Ralph Bouwers.

“Our youth enjoyed this day in the streets of St Montague Village, drawing and playing board games. The creative component was stimulated, building dreams and sowing the seeds of hope. Four youths produced beautiful artwork and walked away with smart caps as motivation,” he says.

Warrant Officer John Bartlett showed off his talent playing “top” with some children. He said he believed the involvement of parents was key to the wellbeing of the community’s children.

Gavin Walbrugh, chairperson of the community policing forum (CPF), enjoyed the day at the cards table.

“We have tremendous talent in our communities, and our new CPF chairperson will focus on core family values and community building,” says Bouwers.
