Dead man found on tracks

2017-05-02 06:01

An unknown man, between 25 and 35 years old, was found dead at Rondebosch train station on Tuesday last week.

He was allegedly struck by a train travelling in the direction of Cape Town from the station at around 09:20.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam the body was found by the station’s security guard lying on the tracks at the train station near the canal and he alerted the police.

Sisam describes the deceased as a black man wearing blue jeans, a red jacket and black takkies.

He says: “All attempts are being made to identify the deceased. Anyone who has more information about the tragic incident is requested to make contact with the Rondebosch police detective head on 082 469 2492.”

He urges anyone who has a missing family member matching this description to come forward.

The incident had delayed the station’s operations as it was closed shortly after the body was found to allow the forensic unit to work on the scene.
