Steenberg police were called out to a  house in St Agatha Street, Lavender Hill at 09:20 yesterday (Tuesday 21) and found the decomposing body of a woman in a bungalow at the back of the property.

“When the members opened the bungalow they found the partially decomposed body of an unknown woman covered with a carpet. Her hands and feet were tied and she was half naked. The age of the deceased is unknown at this stage," says Warrant Officer John Bartlette.

Steenberg police have registered a case of murder for investigation. No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.

“At this stage police don’t want to speculate whether the body is that of the missing 13-year-old Rene Tracey Roman. Only forensic investigation can determine that,” he says.

Roman went missing on Friday 10 March and the community, community policing forum and neighbourhood watches have been searching for her.

Anyone with information about the murder are requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Nazel Dlaminie of Steenberg police on 084 312 4472 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
