Delays in formation of KID

2018-06-26 06:01

There have been further developments regarding the establishment of a Kenilworth Improvement District (KID).

After we had submitted our business plan and accompanying documentation, we were advised by the City of Cape Town that our budget is unlikely to satisfy the shortcomings enumerated in our Urban Management Survey.

Among other things, we need to boost the public safety staffing and backup budgets. In addition, we need to increase allowances for cleanliness, social responsibilities and recycling. The result is that we are unlikely to meet the deadline to allow our KID to be registered in time. We must now target September 2019.

Another piece of advice from the City was to hold public meetings with smaller segments of our community. This will allow more in-depth discussion of your needs and how they can best be met by our KID. Larger public meetings should come at a much later stage.

As the KID Steering Committee, we are disappointed with this turn of events. We will revise the budget and use this postponement to make more personal contact with our community. For this, we need your support. Please speak to your neighbours and arrange a meeting at which one of our committee will be present to answer all of your queries. Those we can’t answer, we commit to giving you a definite date for a response.

From our side, we will contact individual homeowners in streets and apartment complexes to promote these meetings.

Should you want us to answer any questions at this stage, please send an email to or contact one of the following members of the Steering Committee.
