LETTER: Donate your unused garden goodies

2017-01-31 06:01

After helping to start a veggie garden at my previous school and requesting Stodels Constantia to assist Constantia Primary in getting their own going (which they very generously did) I would like to now expand this initiative to underprivileged schools in Langa.

It is my belief that every school should have a vegetable garden to teach the children responsibility to take care of nature and to show that healthy food can come straight from the soil (or backyard, if they take the initiative home).

Along with a few former pupils, I have bought a small supply of seeds and seedlings as well as some garden equipment but I am hoping that the generosity of Capetonians will once again come to the fore to take this campaign to a much higher level. Many of us have old trowels, spades, watering cans and half-empty packets of seeds lying around in our garages – please pass these on to children who will be more than happy to “adopt” them and start their own green patch.

If readers have any seeds, seedlings, pots, compost, shade cloth, small spades, gardening gloves, etc. they wish to donate, please email me at ellen76seven
@gmail.com.
