Dress up for fire fun run

The fireball fun run will see all donations from a 6km fun run going towards fire prevention. All participants are requested to dress according to the theme “Fire”.

The race at the Farm Village in Noordhoek on Sunday 28 February at 15:00 supports the Valley fire prevention project, which promotes fire safety education by visiting schools and communities and building on local fire prevention structures.

The project was chosen as the fun run’s beneficiary after the devastating wildfire of March last year, says organiser Owen Middleton.

“The huge fires brought a community together and proved that despite us living such isolated lives, when the chips are down there are really good people out there who will come together to serve a common good. For example, the fires inside De Goede Hoop Estate were fought by residents living outside the estate, despite the majority having never set foot inside the enclosed estate,” he says.

“The events also proved that in such disasters you can’t just sit back and rely on the services that we are so blessed to enjoy – it’s just too much. This is really an inspiring atmosphere to identify and live in and I felt we should do something to hold onto that spirit.”

The event, which will only have space for 700 runners, hopes to raise R100 000, says Middleton. This will be in addition to income generated at the Farm Village during the event.

V Participants can register for the fireball fun run at www.wildrunner.co.za. Entry is R200 for adults, R100 for children and R500 for families.
