Drive to keep children safe

Residents of Pelican Park are invited to attend an informative missing persons drive on Saturday – and bring their children along. The public event will take place at Pelican Park Primary School and is in conjunction with the local police, Lotus River Community Care and Safety Association (LRCCSA) and Missing Persons SA.

“The awareness drive aims to create complete kits containing essential details relating to your child or any vulnerable person. This includes their fingerprints, weight, height, a recent photo and more,” explains event coordinator Najiema Benjiman.

“This specific information can be presented to the police in the event anything happens to your child. This kit is of utmost importance as it would expedite the process to start searching.”

Benjiman says the deputy principal of the school approached the LRCCSA requesting a drive on their premises.

“Zerina Gabriels is very passionate about the safety of her learners and creating awareness of stranger danger. She invited various speakers, including Bianca van Aswegen from Missing Persons, who will be highlighting certain issues relating to safety awareness and reporting of missing persons. This is a very important session and it would be great if our community can join,” she adds.
