Muizenberg police officers of the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) noted a suspicious-looking white Toyota Corolla in St Patrick Street, Seawinds at about 18:00 on Thursday.

The vehicle was seen leaving a suspected drug outlet in Mountain Road. Police officers then blocked the vehicle and noted the driver discarding a plastic bag from the vehicle. Provincial spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk says the plastic bag which was discarded by the driver earlier was found to contain 100 packets of tik. “The tik, together with a large amount of cash, also found in the suspect’s possession, was handed in at Muizenberg police.

“The suspect, a 26-year-old resident of Seawinds, was arrested and charged with dealing in narcotics, which has an estimated street value of R10 000,” he says.

The Western Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula, was extremely pleased with the drug bust and commended the police officers for their vigilance and action in effecting the arrest. “Drugs and the abuse thereof is rife in certain sectors of our community and the above actions by police members go a long way in fighting this scourge,” he said.
