More than 20 people were arrested and convicted for drug-related crimes in and around Steenberg recently.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant officer John Bartlett, says their detectives are also tasked with the investigation of drug-related cases and they are doing a good job in securing convictions.

He went on to say the community always has a misconception of suspects arrested for drug related cases.

“They are always asking questions as to why the suspects get off free, but the truth of the matter is (officers) work tirelessly to see that those caught on the wrong side of the law are punished,” he says.

The following successes on drug-related cases have been obtained:

. A 30-year-old man of Steenberg was convicted for the possession of 476 sticks of dagga. He was sentenced R300 or six months imprisonment suspended for three years.

. A 26-year-old woman of Lavender Hill was convicted for the possession of crystal meth, better known as tik. She was sentenced with a fine or 30 days imprisonment.
