Drug operations in Mitchell’s Plain are of serious concern says Captain Ian Williams after yet another man (34) was arrested for selling drugs.

The man was arrested by Mitchell’s Plain police on Monday 13 May and is in police custody.

Williams said the arrest came after police received information about a drug dealing taking place at a house in Harvester Way in Westridge.

He said when the police arrived they searched the man and found 60 mandrax tablets in his possession.

Williams said the quantity of drugs discovered on one person is alarming and it is an indication of how serious the drug operation is.

According to him, it could not be confirmed whether the suspect was working alone and the police can hardly ever get an answer from the person they arrested.

The suspect is due to appear in court soon to face a charge of being in possession of mandrax.

Williams added that drug dealing cases are not as prevalent in the Westridge area, but in Tafelsig it is more widespread.

He said the networks of drug production and distribution is underground and it is not easy to crack the cases but they are working around the clock to fight it. He encourages parents to look after their children as drug lords and gangsters are always recruiting new people to join their teams. When they do, they offer gifts in a bid to lure children, especially those from needy families.
