Manenberg police have made a successful drug bust on this morning (20 January) when R100 000 worth of assorted drugs were confiscated in Johanna Court.

Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett says police were able to make the bust after an early morning today.

Bennett confirms Johanna Court is a stronghold of one of the Manenberg gangs.

“Information was received by the Nyanga stabilisation unit about suspected drug dealing in Johanna Court at an address of a known drug dealer and gang leader. A 48-year-old man and two women, aged 25 and 35, were arrested for the possession of various drugs,” Bennett says.

Among the items confiscated, Bennett lists 806 units of unga, 106 units of tik, 100g of uncut tik, 65 ecstacy tablets,189 mandrax tablets and five packets of uncut heroine worth R30 000.

“Officers searching the house found the drugs hidden in the roof. The three adults were alone at home. The man has also contravened his parole conditions and this is a serious offence which will see him serving the rest of his sentence in prison and added to this would be his sentence for the possession of the drugs,” Bennett says.

They were arrested and appeared in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on charges of possession of drugs.

Anyone with information regarding any illegal drugs or crime can contact Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
