Emile YX? will release his 10th solo album alongside Mixed Mense, who will launch their second album, together on Youth Day in Muizenberg.

Emile’s solo album, Afrocentric, is a selection of all his most African-sounding songs.

Emile will perform with Mixed Mense, who will release their second album called Kaapse Katte.

“The decision to release the albums together on Youth Day was because of a concern that the youth of the apartheid struggle are not connected to the youth of today’s struggles and that we would not need to make the same mistakes, if we just connected more,” says Emile.

“The whole idea of ‘connect the old with the new’ will be amplified on the Facebook group ‘So-called Coloured/Mixed Heritage Appreciation’ for the entire month of June.”

It is their plan to upload the names of 30 youth doing amazing work throughout the Western Cape, as well as to remember those from the past.

The Facebook group currently has 397 heroes from the community uploaded for youth to use as references of positive role models.

Emile is currently touring schools, libraries, holiday programmes and communities for free while he is back to assist in raising funds for the group’s international tour to European countries and American cities.

They are also currently working on creating a documentary about Emile’s 15 years of working with Stephan Benting and Charlton Eftha, who now form Mixed Mense with him.

Mixed Mense was the practical hip-hop school of the Heal the Hood Project, which now serves as an extra performance job for them.

V The launches will take place at The Hive Muizenberg Festival at 19:00.
