Ocean View police partnered with Volunteer Mzantsi Afrika and Volunteer Medical Emergency Services to bring Christmas cheer to children at local early childhood development centres, including Little Footprints, Daisy Day Care, Radiance, Little Footsteps, Yahweh, Aquila Crèche, Little Rascals, Kings Dale, Elshadai and Noordhoek Valley Educare.

The children were treated to a day of fun and games and over 340 children received a gift from Santa at the event held at the Ocean View multipurpose centre.

Staff of Absa were there to teach the children about saving money and opening free bank accounts. The children also received free money boxes in the shape of a soccer boot.

A coaching and mentoring workshop was hosted through various forms of arts and the children participated in singing and dancing.

“The importance of positive decision-making and how it impacts on an individual’s future as a young South African was emphasided,” says Ocean View police spokesperson Sergeant Leon Fortuin.

“This was also an outlet for the children to release the trauma they have experienced in the community where they live. All the children were very enthusiastic and participated in the programme with great interest. There were some very talented children at the event but the main aim was for everyone to have fun. The children also received food and cooldrinks and were given party packs to take home.”
