Claremont Community Policing Forum chairperson Abdul Kerbelker says a consistent problem in service delivery at the Claremont Police Station has been its inability to deal with the aging telephonic system and the manpower to answer the telephones at the station.

He adds that this has allowed for countless incidents of frustration around telephones at Claremont police.

“Captain Deon Bock, acting visible policing head at the Claremont police station, has indicated to the Claremont community that the best way to contact Claremont police is via the 10111 centre,” he says.

Kerbelker says the advantages of contacting the police station via the 10111 centre are multiple. They include that the complainant/caller receives an Incident Report Number by which they can track their complaint. “The station at the back-end also gets monitored by the 10111 centre as to their response times. The customer service centre at the station does not have the telephonic support and sophistication that 10111 have to track and record complaints.

“Captain Bock thus suggest that all complaints and emergencies be channelled through the 10111 centre and number,” he says.

The telephone number 10111 is for any emergency that requires police response and can be dialled from anywhere in South Africa.A call centre operator will answer the incoming call, take all necessary particulars then assign the emergency to the relevant response team to attend to the incident. This may be a flying squad patrol car, or the local police station.Calls to 10111 made on a landline are free. Calls made from a cellphone are charged at normal cellphone rates.
