ECD set to open doors next year

Plans are underway to open up a new early childhood development centre (ECD) in Heideveld.

The centre, which is earmarked to be stationed opposite Heideveld Library, is scheduled to be completed next year.

According to ward 44 councillor Anthony Moses, the site was always their first choice and that the City of Cape Town is now in the process of finding a contractor.

“We are currently busy with the procurement process. The ECD will be based at the corner of Hogsback and Heideveld roads, which is opposite Heideveld Library. We hope to, by the end of March, appoint the contractor and then the work will also commence at the end of April for construction,” says Moses.

He adds that the project has a two-step process.

“We then hope to complete the project within the following financial year in 2019, so that we can undergo the second process where we will look for a service provider who will run the ECD,” says Moses.

The building, once housed the old Heideveld Midwife Obstetric Unit. “It is a historical building within the community and therefore we want to share it with the community in a way where our children can benefit from the facility,” concludes Moses.
