It is once again that time of year when many communities are celebrating renewal and rebirth with their Easter celebrations.

The sixth edition of the Trinitarians Football Club u.14 tournament will also celebrate a new crop of aspiring football stars that will be thrust into the public limelight in the amateur ranks.

The tournament will be held over the Easter weekend from 31 March to 2 April.

“It is our pleasure to host a tournament that has been described as a key component of youth development through soccer,” says tournament director, Martin Julie.

“We hope to witness the depth of football talent that we have in this province and I am equally excited to see how things unfold as the tournament progresses.

We are confident that the games will be successful and the rules of the game will be applied until the final whistle blows. On the field of play, the game teaches the value of co-operating with others and striving towards a goal. Amid the rivalry, friendships are also established and win or lose, it is our hope that each and every player will emerge better for the experience,” he says.

This event brings their campaign to be recognised as a sporting hub one step closer.

“This is a prominent event that will go a long way in contributing to the economic development of our area and also create an enjoyable and memorable experience for our residents and to those visiting us for the first time. We are more than confident that the flair and skill will attract more fans to the venue, painting the area with the atmosphere with which our beloved sport is associated. We urge our residents to support the event in their numbers,” Julie says.

The tournament entry fee is R700 per team. Thirty-two teams will be divided into eight groups of four, and each group will play on a round robin league basis.

The teams ending in first and second position of each group will advance to the winners’ section.

There will be individual awards in the following categories: player of the tournament, goalkeeper of the tournament, and top goalkeeper.

The winners will receive R4000 plus 20 medals and a trophy, while the second place will pocket R3000 plus 20 medals.

Clubs that accept the invitation must ensure that their entry fee reaches the tournament by no later than Friday 2 March 2018 to facilitate the draw for the tournament happening on 12 March.
