Essential services for elderly residents

2018-10-16 06:00

Senior residents of Ottery and Parkwood will have a pair of events to look forward to in November.
Ward councillor William Akim has announced that 120 seniors in Parkwood will have the opportunity to attend a programme at the Methodist Church in Wattle Road on Wednesday 14 November.

“Social Services will be running that programme where there are going to be different departments which will be rendering a service and giving information to the seniors at that event. We will have wellness, Sassa and Home Affairs, fire departments and other different departments from the City will be there,” says Akim.

On Wednesday 28 November there will be another seniors’ event, but it will be held at the Ottery Community Centre in Bruce Road.

“The same programme which will be held in Parkwood will be held at the Bruce Road Civic Centre. Invitations will be sent out to organisations who have seniors and we will invite other people, other seniors who don’t belong to groups, to bring them to the various facilities,” he says.

Seniors who would like to attend but are not mobile will need to contact Akim’s office in order to arrange transport.

“We are also trying to get some transport to bring the seniors, because we don’t want them to walk to the facility. If it rains then they can’t come, so we want to provide some transport for them. We had very successful events last year at the two venues. That is the two events we will be having for our seniors this year,” he says.V Call 021 444 7794 for more details.
