Extra hands planned for ward

Three new fieldworkers may be on the cards for ward 54.

This was announced by ward councillor Shayne Ramsay at a recent ward committee meeting. She says that as the initiative forms part of her ward allocation budget, it would need to first be approved by council at the tabling of the adjustments budget.

“Funding will come from my ward allocation should this be approved in the adjustments budget when presented to council,” Ramsay says.

Should the application be approved, Ramsay expects the three fieldworkers to begin in February, with their contracts ending in June.“They will engage and assist homeless people in the ward,” she explains.

“Fieldworkers are needed to engage the many homeless people in the ward. I hope that they will be able to assist homeless people to reintegrate into society by either returning to their families or moving to a shelter, including the Safe Space, and to assist them with getting IDs and finding jobs via Straatwerk or the Expanded Public Works Programme.”
