Extra security for SPCA

2017-11-21 06:00

Staff of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA in Grassy Park say they were forced to secure their premises after criminals vandalised five mobile units in August this year.

The centre’s spokesperson says R100 000 worth of damages was caused to the vehicles, and they were not able to treat about 200 animals. The vehicles damaged include three mobile clinics, one charity shop collection vehicle and one education vehicle.

“Following the break-in and vandalising of our mobile units we have installed security cameras to ensure we can monitor all activities around our premises both night and day. Security has also been increased for night watch with an additional guard on duty,” says Tara McGovern.

“The effect was very damaging in terms of affecting our daily mobile clinic services to various communities. We had to cancel our service for a few days which is very demoralising to staff and means so many people did not get the help they depend upon. To date the culprits have not been apprehended.”

The centre still needs funds to maintain its daily services. McGovern calls on the public to support them by covering the cost of the remaining damages.
