The Vineyard Hotel, in association with Strauss & Co, is delighted to present the inaugural exhibition of Alexander Lindsay’s Southern African photography titled The Sublime & The Beautiful The Tame & The Terrible.

The exhibition which started last Thursday is still on until Sunday 5 May. The exhibition runs from 18:00 to 21:00

Lindsay creates monumental landscape photographs of extraordinary clarity and beauty.

He has developed his own techniques to capture and print, in minute detail and on an epic scale, wilderness regions of the world and beyond the edges of the influences of humans.

He pushes photographic processes and technology to extreme levels but choses to eschew all forms of photo manipulation or artifice.

His photographic art process is as “pure” as he can make it, reflecting the unsentimental, raw essence of the environments he lives in for his work.

In 2017, he came to photograph in Southern Africa over a period of seven months, focusing on Namibia, South Africa and Lesotho.

During a time of intense drought and water rationing, his photography often reflects the cruelty or gift of rainfall, from the dying quiver tree forests of Namibia to the life-affirming thunderous waterfalls and awe-inspiring green expanses of the Lesotho highlands.

Following his extensive background as a war cameraman and deep ocean film maker, Lindsay’s latest African photographs can seduce with their beauty and detail, but behind these seductive images the very antithesis that modern life is increasingly about is laid out in huge and savage focus, bearing artistic witness to the fragility and rarity of the remaining untouched, natural world.

His work has been exhibited internationally and his photographs are included in major private and corporate collections around the world. He also works on specific commissions for corporate and private clients.

Lindsay will be available for private tours of the exhibition.

This extensive exhibition presents limited edition photographs ranging in size from 1m to 5m wide.
