Families were encouraged to reconnect at a recent family night, hosted by ward 78 councillor Eddie Andrews.

The event was hosted for the Decisions Affect Destinies (Dad) ambassadors and their families at the Westridge Gardens for a Dad Family Night Out.

The Dad Youth Mentorship Programme aims to mentor young people to help them understand how every decision they make affects their lives, families and communities.

These themes of self, family and community are also the primary focus of the programme. The Family Night Out encourages meaningful and positive interaction within the family and with other families in the programme.

The ambassadors and their families braved the cold air and watched The Greatest Showman outside on the lawn.

The families participated in energiser games, dance-offs and a treasure hunt, ending off the evening by watching a movie under the stars. The families also enjoyed popcorn and boerewors rolls.

Andrews says: “It is important to create safe spaces for young people and their families to interact. Spending quality time with teenagers is also very important for building trustworthy relationships. By creating meaningful platforms we are capacitating our ambassadors to make informed decisions, be leaders among their peers and play an active role in their families and communities.”
