Seven dwellings have been destroyed in a fire which ripped through Pook se Bos informal settlement on today (22 February).

The fire which started shortly before 14:00 has since been extinguished and local ward councillor Aslam Cassiem and community leader Mieta Hofstander say nobody was injured in the fire.

Hofstander says the owners of the dwelling where the fire started were not at home at the time of the blaze.

“There was nobody at home so they think it was an electrical fire but we are not sure. The firefighters are here,” she says.

Cassiem says children were seen crying as they were scared and local businesses and organisations have arrived  to assist the families who lost their homes.
