Noordhoek Sports Ground was abuzz with activities as residents came together for the Noordoek Village Sixes charity event on Saturday 1 December

The event is an annual all-day festival for the family.

Entertainment and music was led by Arno Carstens and School of Rock. All those attending were spoilt for choice as there were food stalls, games, bars, prizes and plenty more to choose from.

There was high entertainment on and off the field, with local craft beers and wine offerings, as well as children’s entertainment. Wonderful prizes were generously donated by The Pride of Table Mountain, The Last Word Intimate Hotels and Elgin River Lodge among others. The donations allowed more revenue to be raised through exciting raffles.

All proceeds raised were driven toward much-needed local charities like the Masi 750 Club, which is headed by former South African cricketer and local resident Vintcent van der Bijl under the Masicorp Foundation.

The Masiphumelele township has only one primary school for a burgeoning population, estimated at over 38 000 in 2010, with population estimates currently ranging as high as 50 000. Masiphumelele (Masi) has very limited sporting facilities and opportunities for children. Funds raised have been donated to help improve the lives and opportunities of the children of Masi through the development of new and improved facilities and
resources.

Now in its second year, the Noordhoek Village Sixes Committee invited celebrities to be a part of local teams. The teams were mixed with enthusiastic local fathers, celebrities and celebrity players of the past.

This year was hugely successful and cemented the event as a regular annual charity fixture.

Over 600 people came through the doors for the fun-filled event.

The event is spearheaded by a committee of caring local residents.

Van der Bijl says: “The Masi 750 Club welcomes the generous efforts of the Noordhoek Village Sixes charity event as we work to develop local sporting and educational facilities at Masi in order to improve opportunities for the Masi youth. This is a real fun day for families – the Noordhoek Village provides entertainment, activities, a great variety of food and a chance for all to meet celebrities. As always, the Noordhoek Village Sixes simply rocks.”

Several former cricket greats and celebrities signed up to be part of the initiative.
