Local residents came out in their numbers in support of the family of Bradley Fredericks.

Close to 100 residents from the neighbourhood attended a memorial service for Fredericks held in front of his home on Wednesday.

They lit candles and wrote messages on a cloth set up on the barrier wall of his Orpheus Crescent home, covered in pictures, flowers and memories.

The service was also attended by former Cape Town mayor Theresa Solomons and local ward councillor Joan Woodman.

The service was organised by the Community Policing Forum (CPF), the local Anglican church, sector four subforum and the local neighbourhood watch.

Fredericks was last seen on Monday 9 July and was reported missing on Friday 20 July.

His body was found by a search party. He had been buried in a shallow grave in the bush behind Princeton High School on Sunday 22 July.

Police arrested three men shortly after the discovery (“Arrests in local man’s murder”, People’s Post, 31 July).

His murder came as a surprise to the residents and parish as Fredericks was a well-loved former Navy Seal.

The suspects arrested in the case also appeared in court on Monday last week but bail was denied.

Lentegeur CPF spokesperson, Anthea Vent, says: “As the Lentegeur CPF, we would like to acknowledge Detective Sergeant Ivan Ryneveldt for his hard work and contribution to the case.”
