Father killed in armed robbery

Manenberg police are calling on the public to assist them in bringing justice to the family of an innocent young father who was killed in Heideveld earlier this month.

A murder case is currently under investigation after the robbery and assault of a 23-year-old man. According to Manenberg police spokesperson Captian Ian Bennet, the father was on his way to work on the morning of Tuesday 3 July when he was approached by his assailants.

The unidentified suspects robbed the victim at knifepoint in Duinefontein Road. They then stabbed him before fleeing the scene.

Locals rushed to the victim’s aid and took him to hospital for immediate emergency medical care. However, he succumbed to his injuries soon after.

“At this stage there is no new information on the circumstances regarding this senseless murder and robbery of this young man, as well as no information on the suspects. We are requesting anyone to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” explains Bennet.

“We will leave no stone unturned to arrest these perpetrators and ensure that justice is served. We are confident that an arrest will be made with the assistance of the community.”

Residents of Heideveld spoke to People’s Post about ongoing robberies in the area.

“It is [safe] waiting at a bus stop in the morning, especially in this area. Innocent people are being targeted and sometimes they are killed just for their phones. It is not fair, we need to have more neighbourhood watch and police presence patrolling. Our people are scared and fear for their lives. Sometimes sitting in a car waiting for your loved ones to board a bus is also not safe. These suspects will go as far as hijacking you while you wait in your car,” explains Adnaan Adams.

Another resident, who does not want to be identified, says criminals are seen walking freely in the community, after receiving bail for crimes they committed.

“It is not right, as they only come out to commit these crimes again. There are better things to focus on in our community, other than evicting or locking up residents for living on government land illegally. Police need to focus on these criminals as innocent people are suffering and killed during daily robberies.”

Bennet says the murder case is currently receiving top priority at the police station and the community is requested to come forward with any information. No arrests have been made as yet.

V Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects should call 0216 999 400 or 086 001 0111.
