Financial boost for clinic

2019-01-29 06:01

It has been a great start to the year for the Claremont Clinic as it received a boost of R25 000 from the local council.

Ward councillor Ian Iversen recently announced his donation towards the clinic, saying it has been taken from the 2018/2019 financial year ward allocation.

He says the amount will focus on services including:

.A breastfeeding counsellor who will be available for three months.

.Cancer awareness focusing on a cervical screening drive

.Condom, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy awareness week.

.World TB Day and

.Youth Day, which will focus on giving talks to learners at local schools to make them aware of the services provided by the clinic.

Iversen hopes the funding will last for at least six months and he urges local patients to take advantage of the clinic as all the services will be offered free of charge.

“The welfare of residents is of importance to the City and we encourage parents to ensure that their children receive the necessary immunisation or injections at the prescribed intervals so that they remain healthy. Parents need to make use of the facilities being offered to check that they are in good health, but if there are problems to identify them at an early stage.”

Iversen further explains that he would like to see the services taken to the people, making them more accessible so as to improve awareness of various health issues.

“I have asked the clinic staff that some of the events be held at the taxi interchange [where] they would need a few gazebos to conduct interviews and do the necessary testing.

“We also hope to be granted permission to have an event in the local shopping mall as well.”
