A local gospel group has set out to spread its message in a form that people can take with them.

Divine Purpose, a 10-person group formed in 2012, is all set to release their first CD next month.

After months of sacrifice, the CD is finally ready and will be released on Sunday 4 February at the Bellville Civic Centre.

“Whenever we minister or sing, we see the positive impact our music has on people. They either cry, dance or smile and it motivates us to continue with the message of hope that Jesus Christ heals, saves and delivers,” says Pastor Craig Pienaar, the group leader.

Pienaar is also the songwriter and composer for the group.

“We write our own music,” he says.

“We realised that we are on to something when our local church – The Oneness Pentecostal Truth Church – received our own composed songs really well, and that is where it all started – at church.”

The group is the worship team at the church in Portlands, where they all met.

“All of us were serving and fellowshipping at the same church and from there I spoke to our late bishop and the other leadership members of the church and they saw potential in us,” says Pienaar.

“They helped us generate funds for the recording at KG Studios in Kuils River with our producer Marco van der Merwe and also Lee Ludolph, who helped us create this unique sound, and we are forever grateful for their efforts and the time they’ve invested in us.”

The CD is a labour of love, he says.

“The vocalists worked hard in the studio, with many late nights and early mornings to ensure the CD meets the standards of the industry,” says Pienaar.

The compositions are aimed at people of all ages.

I Have Hope is the title of our CD and it consists of 10 beautiful tracks speaking to the heart, mind and soul. The track selection was made by myself and Marco, as we wanted different styles of music, all under the gospel label,” he says.

Although funding was a challenge, the long-awaited album is now ready to be released.

“We had to wait longer to be able to say that we are ready to launch, as funding was a major issue, but by the grace of God and with the support of our friends and family praying for us, we are now more than ready to launch our debut album,” says Pienaar.

He says the group would like to thank all their supporters who have motivated them along their journey.

The CD launch will take place at the Bellville Civic Theatre in Voortrekker Road at 17:00.

Tickets cost R80 for people 13 and older, R40 for children aged five to 12, and children under four enter free.
