A non-profit organisation in Retreat has held its first fundraising snack dance to help an old-age home.

All the proceeds raised at New Living Hope’s fundraising dance on Friday 1 December are going to be used to help Mandolin Place Senior Village in Steenberg with their Christmas party.

The organisation was started by Elrich Herman and Freda Thompson as a soup kitchen in the area in February last to feed the underprivileged members of their community. The organisation has grown and they now have more people to feed. As the demand for soup grew, volunteers also joined in their numbers and they saw a need to register as an NPO.

The organisation will also use some of the proceeds to give food parcels and toys for residents of the informal settlement in Nector Road and Lakeview Drive, Retreat on Saturday 23 December.

“The fundraiser was a great success and people loved the awesome spot prizes, raffles, complimentary bottles of wine and cheese and wine on arrival. We are happy that we could also do something to help in our communities,” says Herman.

He says the snack dance was a success with artists performing, such as Dizzy of Bigbeard Production, Tekknotes, and DJ Stan the Partyman.

“Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who dedicated their time to putting it all together to make it a success. Special thanks to all our sponsors; without their help we won’t be able to do much,” says Herman.
