Forty foreign nationals arrested in Cape Town

An intelligence integrated operation in the Cape Town CBD  by various law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of 40 undocumented foreign nationals from different countries.

According to a report by Constable Lorencial Johnson, spokesperson for the the Cape Town Cluster Task Team, the operation was executed with assistance from Cape Town Central police, Metro Police and the Cape Town City Improvement District (CCID) on Thursday (18 May).

“The operation started at 04:00 and 143 people were tested and their fingerprints scanned for any criminal records. This figure includes South African nationals. Of the 40 illegal immigrants, eight people were sought by police for various crimes including assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm, theft, robbery and possession of drugs,” he says.

Johnson explains the rest of the undocumented foreign nationals will be deported to there country of origin soon.
