Non-profit organisation, Mustadafin Foundation, in conjunction with kind sponsors, helped local community members as part of Ramadan on Friday 1 June. The foundation has been serving orphans and destitute members of the community for more than 32 years. On Friday, its staff assisted Chapel Street Primary School learners by providing 43 families with Ramadan food parcels, blankets and water.

Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, the foundation’s director says: “We know what we brought might not be much but hope that it can be beneficial to the families and help them grow from strength to strength. From Mustadafin, we would like to thank the community for reaching out to us and allowing us to help where we can and may this be an opportunity to grow and live by our slogan of ‘if every man helps his neighbour then who will need help?”

The foundation paid tribute to all its sponsors and volunteers. “At times we look at disadvantaged people and the plight they are going through, and it’s nice to see them smile and benefit from something they don’t get a lot of throughout the year,” says Johnstone-Cassiem.

Chapels Street Primary’s principal, Karriem Gabriels, says: “I am glad that there are organisations like Mustadafin who are always there to be a helping hand to those who are less fortunate, we appreciate your help.”

Johnstone-Cassiem pleads with the community for support in order to carry on his foundation’s charity work. “With all the activities that took place over the week, the foundation humbly appeals for assistance to continue supporting its programmes, with your donations it can reach more hearts. Pay your Fitra, fidiyah, Zakaah and Sadaqah through
Mustadafin.” V Should you wish to be part of the Ramadan Drive, contact Mustadafin Foundation at 021 633 0010 or Whatsapp on 079 567 3645. The organisation opens seven days a week for the month of Ramadan at 30 Turfhall Road, Lansdowne from 08:30 to 19:00.
