Police have swiftly arrested four men for attempted robbery on Friday.

The men are reported to have entered cellphone retailer, MTN, at the Kenilworth Mall earlier on the day.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Maree Louw said the men entered the store and demanded cellphones from the workers.

“They forced a security guard into the shop with them and demanded to the staff to open the lockers storing new cellphones,” she said.

The four alleged robbers were disturbed from their activity by other security guards who spotted them before they could flee the scene empty handed.

“Their getaway car was later spotted in Gugulethu and were successfully apprehended and kept in police custody until their court appearance.”

It is believed that the suspects may be linked to recent attacks at cellphone shops.

They will appear at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday 16 April.
