Fraudster finally jailed

Washfie Louis (30) was sentenced to six years imprisonment at Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Friday 26 April.

According to Captain Ian Williams he was found guilty on eight counts of fraud.

He was initially charged with 13 but the state attorney withdrew the other counts.

“The accused presented himself as a chief executive officer (CEO) of a company that buys and sells motor vehicles. He would take the cars of the complainants pretending to have deposited money into their accounts,” explained Williams.

He said the cheques that the accused would deposit would be rejected by the banks as there was no money in the account, and by that time, he would have disappeared with the motor vehicle or maybe even have sold it somewhere, to another buyer,” Williams explained.

“This happened to various people over a period of about six years,” he shared.
