Free fun walk on Sunday

2016-11-01 06:00

The Rylands-Gatesville Civic Association (RGCA) will be hosting its “Know your neighbour – know your health” fun walk on Sunday from 09:00 to noon at the Habibia Primary School complex.

The RGCA says the aim of the event is “to bring residents together from all walks of life, religious and cultural persuasions, for a day of fun, food and friendship”.

With a 2.5km and a 5km fun walk option, as well as a nappy dash, people of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate.

The primary school will serve as the start and finishing point for the walks, which is being coordinated by Itheko Events Management.

Entry to the fun walk is free and participants stand a chance of winning a weekend away for a couple to the Arabella Hotel and Spa in the lucky draw.

There will also be medical consultants at the event to give residents information on various diseases, including cancer and diabetes.

“We are looking forward to hosting our entire community at this exciting event,” says RGCA chairperson Sataar Parker.

Parker has urged all home cooks to close their kitchens for the day to come support the many food stalls at the event.

“We will have a variety of foods on sale. Our menu includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes such as braai platters, ice-cream and so much more,” states Parker.

The stalls will be located at the Habibia complex.

If the RGCA raises sufficient funds, it hopes to make a contribution to an NGO that supports cancer research.
