A local entrepreneur’s efforts have already had rich rewards for underprivileged people from Philippi and Grassy Park.

Funds raised at a fashion show held in Sea Point last month are being used to feed them (“Local designers grow”, People’s Post, 28 November).

Garia Abdul, the event’s host, says the food distribution kicked off in Phumlani and Olieboom informal settlements on Wednesday morning.

“We made two 60F pots of lamb and chicken akhni. We do this a few times a year in Olieboom as the community there are 95% unemployed. This is also our part of giving back to the community. We plan to continue doing so in the New Year,” she says.

“It really is an awesome experience. The feeling you get when you see how much the community out there appreciates our small gestures is overwhelming.”
