Though the property that has been harbouring crime is gone, Cartsens is not fully convinced that this will be the end of their problems. “I think the City should have left the walls and the gate to act as a deterrent. Leaving a vacant land like that won’t solve our problems. People will still come and burn copper there and do other illegal activities. I hope we hear their plan soon,” he says.

Carstens says rumour has it that there will be low cost housing for that land and this is something that they are not looking forward to.

“If this is true, one thing for sure it will not fit with the ambiance of the area. Our hope was that the land be used for recreational activities for our area. We are planning paint ball and the other others. The land is really rough and ready for that and our children don’t have a place for recreation activities they have to travel to other areas. We hope that the plan for low cost houses is no true then we can also propose as the neighbourhood watch what can help us in this area.”
