She says they have made it clear that they want valid responses soon because “people have run out of patience”, waiting on “empty promises”.

She says residents have proposed a straight cement bridge that will allow them to see both sides of the bridge before walking in. “The current bridge has proven to be unsafe, you cannot see a person coming from the opposite direction and thugs prey on us. It is worse now that it is broken on the sides, they even hide in the wetlands. We want the City to build it according to our preference. We know there is land available for housing development, it will be great if the City finds the rightful owners and start with the legal processes.”

When People’s Post visited the bridge on Wednesday 27 June some parts of the bridge had been fixed with new wood but residents say they do not know who is responsible for the job. They claim to have seen private workmen who “disappeared without saying a word” to them.

A third meeting was supposed to be held on Friday 29 June but it was reportedly cancelled and the community is waiting for a new date.
