Donate towards Kenfac’s renowned musical band and help it continue nurturing local talent.

The 45-year-old St Timothy’s Christmas Band relies solely on fundraisers and donations to cover its costs, but the funds raised in this way are not enough to accommodate all the members.

The band has 62 members between the ages of five and 65.

Currently they need R65 000 to buy instruments and an additional amount to purchase uniforms for new members. Uniforms cost R2000 per member. The band has approximately 15 new members.

The instruments required include four trumpets, four clarinets, four trombones, two flutes, and four bass instruments.

Music instructor, Heinrich Daniels, says: “Our main challenge continues to be instruments. The majority of our members come from poor households and many times they do not have the means to purchase new instruments.

“At present we cannot accommodate our new members with practical musical training. The existing band members often need to borrow the new members’ instruments in order to train. This frequently results in the new members becoming dejected and subsequently dropping out,” he says.

He says they rely on the community for support in terms of fundraising and supporting their events.

“We want our local business leaders to commit to help finance the development of our musicians with their musical studies. We furthermore request that they keep our band members motivated by encouraging them to keep doing well, and also that they continue to send their children to join the band.”

This band has been growing in popularity after winning several provincial competitions.

“One of our greatest successes was when a few of our members were nominated as part of a larger ensemble invited to perform at the Artscape’s Christmas Music Concert in 2015,” says Daniels.V For more information, contact Adriaan Jochems on 082 899 8734 or Heinrich Daniels on 076 220 2964, or email
