Gambling machines grabbed in Salt River

2016-03-08 06:00

A gambling man’s machines in Salt River have come to a standstill after police raided his premises last week.

According to Sergeant Hilton Malila, spokesperson of Woodstock police station, police and officials from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board held an integrated operation at one of the businesses situated at the Transwerke complex in Salt River.

“During the execution of a legally authorised search warrant, members discovered a warehouse containing various amusement machines,” he says.

“A preliminary investigation by the gambling board inspectors revealed and identified gambling machines that were illegally on the premises. It was also discovered that the owner did not have a licence to have or to manufacture gambling machines.

“Twenty-seven illegal gambling machines with an estimated value of R405 000 were confiscated.”

A 56-year-old man who was alone on the premises at the time of the raid was arrested and is facing multiple charges of contravening the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Act, specifically the possession and manufacturing of gambling machines.
