Philippi police nabbed a suspect on Sunday afternoon for a robbery that occurred in Hanover Park.

Police spokesperson Captain Lance Goliath says a case of robbery was reported at about 14:00 on Sunday.

“The head of visible policing, Lieutenant- Colonel Desmond Laing, pursed a suspect described by the victim. In Downberg Road, Laing came across a 22-year-old man who is a self-proclaimed gang leader. Laing searched the man and confiscated a .38 special revolver and live ammunition.”

The gun was reported stolen in the Gauteng in April this year, he adds.

“(It was) also revealed that he was the suspect in a case of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm which (was also reported on Sunday),” Goliath confirms.

Laing arrested the suspect for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as on assault charges.
