Gardens fire extinguished

A fire which has wreaked havoc at a home in Camp Street, Gardens this afternoon (Friday 23 August), has been extinguished.

City of Cape Town fire and rescue services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says that 12 firefighters from Roeland Street, Salt River and Milnerton fire stations were dispatched, using two fire engines and a rescue vehicle in the process.

They immediately set about started with firefighting operations on their arrival.

“At 12:40 this afternoon the City's fire and rescue service responded to a dwelling alight in Camp Street, Gardens. One firefighter fell through the roof, but landed on his feet and didn’t need medical assistance.  The four occupants of the dwelling were unharmed,” says Carelse, who adds the fire was extinguished at 14:51.

The cause for the fire is not yet known.
