Gatesville murder investigated

Athlone police are seeking assistance in solving a murder case.

Police were called to the scene opposite a local restaurant in Gatesville after the body of a 35-year-old man was found on Thursday 29 June at 20:40.

Athlone police spokesperson, Sergeant Zita Norman says the man sustained stabbed wounds to his chest and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The cause is unknown, but it is alleged the man was walking from one of the stalls in the area. He was later found dead by his friend.

Norman says: “Circumstances surrounding his death is unknown. Please contact Athlone police on 021 697 9238/39 with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.”
