Get ahead with new academy

2018-04-10 06:02

ForwardFund Academy officially opened its doors at the Solaris Office Park in Kommetjie Road, Sunny Acres today (Tuesday 10 April) and scholarships are up for grabs.

The academy launches with the introduction of a Saqa-accredited National Certificate in Film and Television Production.

ForwardFund Academy has partnered with Bryony Roughton, owner of South African Youth Media Education to present a one-year course in film and television studies. This National Certificate gives previously disadvantaged students the opportunity to learn film and television skills and to acquire the necessary knowledge to freelance and work within the film and television industry upon graduation.

ForwardFund Academy is offering 20 qualifying students living in the Southern Peninsula full scholarships for 2018 to study the National Certificate in Film and Television. There are also spaces available for paying students and academy fees are available on request. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 24 and have an interest in film and television. Applications must include a letter of referral from someone respected in the community, for example a teacher or a priest. Applicants must have matriculated, but a bachelor’s pass is not a necessity. A South African ID is a must. Applicants must make a 30-second video on their interpretation of the water crisis in their area.

According to Tina Thiart, ForwardFund trustee, the academy envisages playing a major role in developing women-owned small businesses and will provide more training to the local communities.

The academy is launching the National Certificate: New Venture Creation in the next phase of learnership and will focus on investing in the education of local previously disadvantaged female entrepreneurs. ForwardFund has enjoyed many years of success concerning female entrepreneurship with the WIN Women’s Empowerment Network.

The ForwardFund Trust is a registered trust and an independent fund that offers companies the opportunity to invest in skills development, enterprise development and socioeconomic development by contributing funds to various approved beneficiaries.

ForwardFund works in close collaboration with HGG NPO Sustainability Solutions, a Seta-accredited training facility, to ensure that unemployed youths and women can access accredited skills training.

Experts in the film and television industry are invited to step forward and offer their skills in a mentoring capacity. Desks, chairs, filing cabinets, stationery and files would all be welcomed as a donation to the ForwardFund Academy.

ForwardFund believes in investing in the communities in which it operates and realises the great challenge of local youth accessing quality skills training. ForwardFund mobilised resources to open the academy on Kommetjie Road, giving Southern Peninsula youth the opportunity to access accredited training. In addition, ForwardFund is developing a computer lab where the youth can access the internet to apply for work or to study online.
